The Ranji Trophy.

Named after Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji — the Nawanagar prince who played for England at the turn of the 20th century and became one of the most celebrated batsmen the game had ever seen — the Ranji Trophy has been contested since 1934. Nine decades of Indian cricketers proving they belonged. Proving they were good enough. Earning the right to be seen by the selectors who hold the keys to the Test cap.

Tendulkar played Ranji. Kohli played Ranji. Kumble, Dravid, Gavaskar, Kapil Dev — every name you know, every giant of Indian cricket — all of them came through this tournament. All of them played in empty grounds for small crowds on difficult pitches with everything on the line and nothing guaranteed.

The Ranji Trophy is where Indian cricketers are made.

The Ranji tee renders the trophy as it deserves — monumental, luminous and sacred. The ornate gold cup dominates the entire composition, elevated on a carved marble plinth, radiating golden sunlight in every direction from its peak. Sanskrit inscriptions cover the face of the trophy. Behind it: the silhouettes of eleven cricketers in whites, arms raised in celebration — eleven figures dissolving into the golden light behind the trophy as if the trophy itself is the source of everything. In the foreground: enormous lotus flowers and marigold blooms frame the base of the plinth. A Mughal arch in warm ivory and dark gold frames the whole composition, gold botanical filigree filling the black borders from corner to corner.
